WELCOME TO SOLO JIM OUTDOORS

Where off-grid living, DIY projects, and wild places come together. I build, explore and share what it really takes to live simply and self-sufficiently.

About Me

I’m Jim Jorgensen, the guy behind Solo Jim Outdoors on YouTube. I build, explore, and learn by doing—off the grid, one project at a time. My goal isn’t to escape life; it’s to live it more simply, closer to the land, and share what I learn along the way.Over the years, I’ve built a small off-grid A-frame cabin, a micro-homestead, and most recently, began work on the High Desert Outpost — a private observation station out in the Oregon desert where the night sky still belongs to the stars.Through my videos, I try to show that you don’t need much to live well. With a bit of work, some imagination, and a willingness to try, you can build a life that’s quieter, freer, and more your own.

Projects

Off-Grid A-Frame Cabin
Tucked away in the mountains, my A-frame cabin was the first real test of living simple and building with what I had. It’s small, off-grid, and completely self-sufficient—powered by solar, heated by wood, and built by hand. What started as a weekend project turned into a quiet retreat and a reminder of how little it takes to feel at home. You can check out the step by step build process on my blog and also on my YouTube channel.
Micro Homestead
Back on our home property, the Homestead is where the daily work happens. On are 3 acres we raise animals, grow food, and keep finding ways to be more self-reliant. Every fence post, garden bed, and outbuilding tells part of our story.
High Desert Outpost
Far from pavement and light, the High Desert Outpost is a private basecamp in the Oregon desert—built for those who still look up. It’s a place to test gear, record the weather, and capture the night sky the way it was meant to be seen. It’s also a reminder that silence, space, and starlight are still out there if you’re willing to go find them.

Thank you for your message. I spend a lot of time out in the field or off-grid, but I’ll reply as soon as I’m back where the signal’s steady.
